I had a vigor 2900 which worked perfect with my ADSL line (6Mb/0.6Mb) but the speed was a real killer when working over a VPN-connection.
So I upgraded the connection to the fastest I could get over here, this was a Cable-connection (120mbit/10mbit).
With this speeds I needed to replace the vigor also which was limited around 25mbit and the VPN round the 7mbit..

The new router was the Zyxel USG-200 which could support the cable speed..
After a while I started to use IPv6 with a router build on a old PC and route all the IPv6 traffic through tunnelbroker.net

The Zyxel started to give me some problems with the traffic.. The firmware from the Zyxel is a real mess, there version numbers and dates are not always right on the sites.
Now the router complains it canā€™t connect to the Zysh-daemon and the only way to get into the management interface is to remove the power and after a few days it starts again.

A few weeks ago I decided to buy a net5501 from Soekris Engineering to experiment with.
Last Friday it finally arrived. The first thing I did was try it with m0n0wall. The installation was very easy and the system worked perfect.

So I replaced the zyxel with the net5501 and rebuilded all my VPN connections which went very smooth.
The best thing was the IPv6 support in the software so I could turn off the old pc running the IPv6 gateway.

This weekend I decided to add a gigabit card to the router to speedup the uplink to the internet.
M0n0wall works perfect the only problem is that it does not work with the RTL8169 (10/100/1000) card. This made me try pfsense which did recognize the card and could use it to connect to the cable modem.
But pfsense does not have any IPv6 support..

After a weekend working with pfsense I switched back to m0n0wall I like the extra options but the menu makes me crazy it does not stay open and selecting options is very difficult..

I removed the gigabit card from the router and decided to leave the extra 20mbit unused.
My download speed is still around the 98mbit which is fast enough for now.. šŸ˜‰
